A reception was held last night to present a lifetime achievement award to a Marlborough benefactor and welcome new Officers of Dignity.
The Mayor of Marlborough, Councillor Nicholas Fogg MBE, awarded Robert Hiscox a Lifetime achievement award for his contributions to the town.
Robert said his generosity was in aid of benefiting and supporting the local community and his most recent endeavour resulted in the opening of The Parade Cinema, which also hosts annual festivals and events for people in the town to enjoy.
His other achievements include saving the White Horse Bookshop from closing, providing funding for the Priory’s community bus and being the first sponsor of the Literature Festival.
During the event, Emma Kimber was introduced as the Town Crier and Linda Illsley as Beadle – the first time in nine years the Town Council has had both roles filled.
Emma said: “My biggest supporter is my 6-year-old daughter who attended my first event waving a Union Jack flag like I was The Queen. It’s important to me to include future generations in our history and tradition.”
Linda, who worked at a preschool in the town for 22 years, said she was ‘delighted’ to take on the honorary role.
